Swift helps to put out the fire.
CFOA Policy Facts
• If your AFD (Automatic Fire Detection) system does
not meet the requirements of this policy, the fire service will
reduce their level of response.
• Every year 90% of activations are rogue calls and as such
the fire service loses 1,273,500 working hours per year at a cost
of over £15 million.
• In 2004 the Fire & Rescue Service responded to 282,000
false alarms from AFD systems.
• The new CFOA policy commenced in April 2005!
The new Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) Policy relating to
remotely monitored systems is already in force. This means
that if users of remotely monitored systems are not complying to
the policy then the fire service will be forced to reduce levels
of response, which could be devastating for many UK businesses.
To comply with the new policy AFD’s will have to be maintained
by third party accredited companies whether they have installed
the system or not. CFOA recognises the BAFE SP203 scheme as compliant
to their policy.
Swift has recently hosted a number of seminars throughout the UK
in partnership with regional fire & rescue services and world
renowned fire product company; Gent by Honeywell.
The first of these important seminars was held at the prestigious
Lumley Castle Hotel in the North East and was well attended by representatives
from over 50 corporate and government organisations from all over
the North East of England.
The main speaker, Derek Portsmouth, is Regional Managing Director
of Swift Fire & Security (Northern) Ltd., which is the only
BAFE SP203 third party accredited company in the North East. Derek
is one of the industry’s most respected professionals, with
a career spanning over 20 years. He is convinced that 3rd party
involvement is the way forward.
